SCHOOL BASED HEALTH CARE SERVICES

School-based health centers, such as those provided by school nurses, can have a positive influence on school attendance. Moreover, all schools can improve student health and health outcomes by promoting; supporting asthma and injury interventions; better addressing child and family health needs; and connecting children and families to other necessary health and social service interventions.

Health care, public health, and human service agencies and providers play a critical role in the well-being of children and can help improve school attendance, especially among the most at-risk children, by establishing effective partnerships with school districts and schools so that children get the support they need when they need it. When school districts partner with us, they ensure families they have the support they need, to ensure good attendance, healthcare, reliable transportation, and pediatric health services. Our school partners, will reduce the spread of illness among other children and school staff within their schools. They will also, reduces absenteeism in their workplace among staff. It's important that school districts ensure that students have access to high-quality health care when they need it.

While chronic absenteeism can be especially harmful to children in preschool and kindergarten, you should know that any student who is chronically absent at any grade level is less likely to graduate from high school or go on to succeed in college. Take the following action steps and partner with Zakai Care School Based Health Program, so that your students can develop a more positive attitude toward school, stay in school longer, have better attendance, and an overall rewarding school experience.

  • Our approach allows children to "remain in school" and be counted "present",  "not absent", while in our care.

  • Our teaching staff assist students with their assigned school work, that's provided by their schools.

  • Our goal is to prevent children from falling behind in their class work while they recover from mild illnesses.

Our school partnerships, can help educators and communities provide support to students who are, or at risk of becoming, chronically absent from school.

Revise discipline policies to remove punitive consequences such as suspension and expulsion for chronically absent students, and implement policies that will support our School Base Health Program services for such students.
